History: wiki link
The SU wiki isn’t great so I will summarise what we do know about Jasper’s backstory:
  • Jasper is an immortal space alien whose species, gems, view planets like Earth as expendable resources and uses them basically as incubators to grow more gems in their ‘Kindergartens’ via a process that ultimately wipes out all life on the planet in question

  • She was grown on Earth at an unknown point in time either prior to or during the thousand-year-long ‘first war’ over the planet, 5-6,000 years ago

  • during that war she was part of the gem Homeworld’s armies and fought against Rose Quartz and the Crystal Gems, a group of rebel gems opposed to Homeworld’s restrictive attitudes to gem individuality and also to their plans to allow all life on Earth to be destroyed. Jasper never met Rose Quartz but considered her a worthy military leader

  • more recently she has mostly been assigned tedious escort work where she doesn’t end up actually needing to do anything

  • her most recent mission brought her into conflict with the Crystal Gems again, a now much-diminished force of three gems and Rose Quartz’s half-human son Steven, who Rose gave up her physical form to create

  • Jasper attempted to take them captive, determined to take Steven back to her leader, Yellow Diamond, but was thwarted by the mission’s informant Lapis Lazuli, a gem who had been imprisoned in a mirror in the care of the Crystal Gems for thousands of years but despite her hostility towards them had become friends with Steven: after losing to the Crystal Gems, Jasper coaxed Lapis into fusing with her – combining their energies to form a larger, more powerful ‘fusion gem’ – but, determined to protect Steven, Lapis tricked Jasper, allowing her to think she had the upper hand long enough for them to fuse, and then using her tremendous power to seize sole control of their fusion and plunging them into the ocean

  • they have been at the bottom of the sea for months, with Lapis struggling to contain the force of their combined anger and Jasper struggling to usurp her control and escape. Lapis has maintained control for most of that time but neither of them is having a ball here

  • After the events of ‘Chille Tid’, this tenuous balance has been broken and they have combined mentally as well as physically into one being, Malachite, who it is probably safe to say is Super Messed Up. Jasper will be separating from Malachite when she arrives in-game.

Personality: Jasper is a huge raspy-voiced bad guy in a cartoon for children with an unsettling grin and an aesthetic probably best described as ‘muscle rock Thundercat’. She is mean and she loves fighting, and she likes wearing a cape when she has to make an entrance, and she does not think very highly of the power of love.

Practical, stern and brusque, Jasper nonetheless possesses a certain sort of honour, although it’s one that conflicts with the more liberated Crystal Gems on a number of points – she considers fusion ‘cheap’ as a combat tactic and ‘shameless’ outside of battle, and is appalled and disgusted by what she perceives as Rose Quartz’s change into the far smaller and less powerful Steven. When it comes to the use of power and tactics that meet her approval, she respects and admires even her enemies, but she obviously believes that the strength she values so much has its place, and that it’s only in the hands of those created with it. She is profoundly unimpressed by the idea of a gem who wasn’t made for combat taking up a weapon, for example, referring to Pearl as ‘defective’ and ‘lost’. These ideals are informed by Gem Homeworld prejudices that she has never seen fit to question, but Jasper’s preoccupation with strength and combat aren’t universal Homeworld values. As a Quartz, Jasper was created specifically for battle, and with this as her only purpose from the moment she emerged it’s easy to see why it’s so important to her.

It’s also easy to see why she’s so bored with what seems to be a pretty typical mission for her these days (‘another waste of my time’) – thousands of years ago she was fighting tremendous battles, and now she’s being assigned escort duty to gems like Peridot, where it seems like most of the time her helmet and fists are merely a precaution. In her opinion her abilities are being wasted, but Jasper is a soldier, and she does what she’s told even if she doesn’t like it. (That’s not to say she follows orders blindly – Jasper has thousands of years of experience, and unlike the apparently far younger Peridot, she’s comfortable making the call to step outside the parameters of the mission when unexpected circumstances require it.)

Although she has a warrior’s thirst for battle and relishes a good fight, she’s only really interested when she deems her opponent worth the challenge. When she first claps eyes on what’s left of the Crystal Gems, she immediately decides it’s not worth it for her to fight them, and boredly instructs Peridot to just destroy them with their ship’s artillery. While her enthusiasm once she’s actually fighting suggests she might have been more eager and reckless in the past (especially if she has anything in common with Amethyst), Jasper’s been at this for a long time, and she’s less inclined to throw her weight around just for the hell of it these days.

She’s also pretty willing to throw aside her personal opposition to things like fusion if the situation demands it – she was almost definitely ordered to fuse with other Jaspers during the war, the only kind of fusion Homeworld approves of, even if she clearly didn't much like it. However, after spending months trapped under the ocean as part of Malachite, she’s going to be in even less of a hurry to fuse with anyone again. The experience has been extremely traumatic and coming right out of it into this setting will be pretty disorienting for her – albeit also an enormous relief. She is going to be so glad she isn’t being held prisoner by Lapis any more. She is never going to go near an ocean again if she can help it.

Abilities/Skills:

  • Combat skills. Jasper is an experienced warrior and is practiced in using her fists as well as her helmet in combat.

  • Superhuman strength and endurance. As a quartz gem, Jasper was created specifically for combat, and she can survive a spaceship exploding and crashing without being forced to retreat to her gem. Speaking of which...

  • Jasper's physical form is a projection from the core of her true self, the gem in the centre of her face. That’s not to say it can’t feel pain and take damage, but when it takes too much damage, like all gems, she is able to simply withdraw into her gem and remain dormant there until she’s recuperated enough power that she can regenerate. While in her gem she has no ability to defend herself or any perception of the outside world; her gem is sturdy, but if it’s damaged or destroyed, the effects are permanent.

  • Shapeshifting. Because Jasper’s body is a projection, she can alter it as she sees fit (although whatever she changes into it’s still going to be orange). Changing and holding a shape other than her default requires concentration and focus, though; she can only change her default appearance when she regenerates totally.

  • Like all of her kind, Jasper can summon a weapon from her gem (although this seems to be easier for some gems than others). Jasper’s is a crash helmet with a diamond-shaped column that she uses to deliver extremely powerful headbutts.

  • She is also capable of a Sonic the Hedgehog style spin attack where she flings herself at people surrounded by fiery orange energy? You know, as you do.

  • Jasper is capable of combining with other gems to form larger, more powerful fusion gems, but she can only do this with others of her own species, and also she is absolutely not going to do it at all if she can help it.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: combat skills; superhuman strength and durability; doesn’t need to eat, sleep or breathe; good at taking orders; is at least eight feet tall not counting her hair
Weaknesses: doesn’t believe in friendship; doesn’t understand many of the habits and needs of typical organic life forms; hates and fears water and emotional intimacy; has to duck to go through human sized doors; thinks pronouns other than ‘she’ are for wusses

Items: None.
